ISLAMABAD, Jan 15: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to the attorney-general and the NWFP advocate-general on an appeal of Jamaat-i-Islami Chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad, who has been in detention for two months.
Mr Ahmad, whose petition was dismissed by the Peshawar High Court (PHC), has demanded of the apex court to grant leave against the order passed by a PHC division bench on Dec 4, 2001.
Advocate Akram Sheikh requested the SC to set his client at liberty, at least as an interim measure.
He also prayed to the court to order the government to produce Mr Ahmad before it.
