RAWALPINDI: Three police officials were booked on the charge of illegally detaining and torturing two labourers at a police post in Rawat.

Soon after the incident came to light, all officials of the police post were suspended on Saturday. However, none of the suspects has been arrested so far.

Irfan Ahmed, a resident of Gujar Khan, complained to the police that he along with Anser Mehmood was working in a chemical factory at Rawat Industrial area.

On Dec 3, a fire broke out in the factory during which the owner of the factory alleged that some money lying in the factory had been stolen. The owner sought police help and expressed his suspicion on 15 workers, including Ahmed and Mehmood, for the theft of the money.

Mr Mehmood in his complaint lodged with the police said he and Ahmed were called to the police post for an investigation on Saturday morning.

“We were subjected to severe torture by the police for the whole day on Saturday. Torture marks are visible on our bodies.”

He said the three police officials used abusive language and beat them up with iron wire, sticks and plastic pipes.

Later, he added, the police officials asked them to leave the post and threatened them that they would be detained again if they disclosed the matter to anybody.

Following the complaint, a criminal case was registered against the three police officials while the other staff members of the post were suspended by City Police Officer Mohammad Ahsan Younas.
