RAWALPINDI: A search has been launched for the attackers who allegedly shot and injured a police official during a snap checking in the Airport police area.

The police said they would get help from the close circuit television (CCTV) cameras as geo-fencing of the area has also been carried out to trace the attackers.

A police team during a routine snap checking signalled three people riding a motorcycle to stop.

In response, one of the motorcycle riders pulled out a pistol and opened fire on the police. As a result, Constable Waheed Iqbal was injured. The motorcycle riders left the vehicle behind and ran away.

However, the motive behind the gunfire remained unclear. On Sunday, City Police Officer (CPO) Ahsan Younus visited the injured constable at Benazir Bhutto Hospital and appreciated him for performing duty with dedication.

Separately, two employees of a freight forwarding company were shot and injured during a robbery attempt in Gunjmandi on Saturday night.

The injured, Shabir Ahmed and Mehboob, were shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.
