DADU: Wahi Pandhi police released Lilan Khatoon Rind, mother of alleged ‘stoning’ victim Gul Sama on Thursday, declaring her innocent.

SHO Ameer Ali Brohi, who was investigation officer of the case, said the police were letting the mother go under Section 497 CrPC. She had been in police custody under a two-day remand at Wahi Pandhi police station.

However, the victim’s father Ali Bux Rind and Maulvi Mumtaz Leghari, who had led her funeral prayers, are still in police custody.

Police have obtained further three-day remand of the two suspects from the court of judicial magistrate of Johi, Agha Imran Pathan.

SHO Brohi said that the investigation into the case would move forward after chemical examination report of the victim’s body samples came out.

A medical board led by Dr Syed Qurban Ali Shah had exhumed the body at Lali Lak graveyard in Shahi Makan area a day before and took samples for post-mortem.

Gul Sama was allegedly stoned to death on Nov 21 near her home in Shahi Makan near Wahi Pandhi town under a verdict a jirga passed while deciding a karo-kari dispute. Police were probing the allegation about the incident.
