QUETTA: Sacked teachers of Kech district have appealed to provincial authorities to reinstate them immediately otherwise they will move courts.

Addressing a press conference at the Quetta Press Club on Sunday, one of the sacked teachers, Nida Anwar, said that the education secretary had sacked 114 teachers on a report of District Education Officer Ayaz Akhtar.

She claimed that Ayaz Akhtar was a clerk at Commissioner Officer of Kech district, and he himself was sacked on corruption charges. But after coming to power, she said, leaders of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) again got him promoted as education officer in violation of rules.

“Ayaz Akhtar had sacked 114 teachers, including those who had died and those who were on maternity leave,” Nida Anwar said and claimed that they have been sacked so that workers of BAP and relatives of its leaders could be appointed in their place.

“The teachers were sacked without giving an opportunity to defend them. This is unconstitutional and against the rules and regulations of the education department,” she lamented.

Nida Anwar said the teachers had been performing their duties honestly, but they were sacked for paving the way for appointment of unqualified people who were relatives of party leaders of BAP.

“If the authorities did not pay heed the education of children will be at stake because those who will replace the sacked teachers only want government jobs for money, and not to teach,” she said.

Nida Anwar was accompanied by other sacked teachers at the press conference.
