LAHORE: Inspector General of Police Punjab retired Capt Arif Nawaz Khan has expressed displeasure over death of a citizen in Mughalpura due to stray kite string.

While chairing a meeting at Central Police Office (CPO), he directed the police officials to launch a crackdown on those violating ban on kite flying across the province.

He also asked them to prepare a comprehensive strategy in order to stop kite flying particularly in Lahore and other districts of Punjab.

He added that there should be no delay in taking action against those circle officers and SHOs who failed in implementing kite flying law in their respective areas.

There should be no discrimination in taking action against dealers of kites and thread.

The IGP directed the CCPO Lahore that a weekly campaign should be launched to control crime in the city and intelligence-based operations should be conducted especially to arrest A category criminals to bring crime rate down within a week.

He said a special report should be made against those robbers, who were acquitted from courts during the last 10 months.

He directed to prepare a report as to how challaned criminals got released from the courts and also identify the basic reasons of their acquittal.

There should be no delay in taking legal and departmental action against those SHOs who have private gunmen, giving a week period to implement his decision in this regard.

The IGP also issued instructions to senior police officers of Lahore, including CCPO and DIGs of both operation and investigation wings, to spend maximum time in fields instead of sitting at their offices.
