RAWALPINDI: Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed was on Monday admitted to the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC) after he complained of chest pain.
On reaching the RIC, Mr Rashid underwent an angiography and other tests and was hospitalised.
RIC Executive Director Dr Azhar Mehmood Kiani told Dawn that the minister came to the hospital with a chest pain where an angiography and blood tests were conducted.
Dr Kiani said blockades in two blood arteries of the minister were detected. But he will be kept on medicines as there is no need for inserting a stent.
Dr Kiani said the minister would be discharged on Tuesday and would be advised to take rest for one to two weeks. Mr Rashid’s condition is stable, he added.
Sheikh Rashid was attending a function at the Government Viqarun Nisa Postgraduate College when he felt the chest pain. He was taken to Holy Family Hospital (HFH) where an electrocardiogram (ECG) was carried out.
After examining the ECG, doctors at the HFH referred the minister to RIC.
