PESHAWAR: One person was killed and four others, all men, sustained injuries in rain-related incidents in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday.

The provincial relief and rehabilitation department said that a man died and another one was injured in traffic accident that occurred due to slippery road in Haripur.

It said that three people were injured in another accident in Kolai-Palas district of Kohistan where a vehicle plunged into a deep ravine due to heavy rain. Two of the injured, stated to be in critical condition, have been shifted to Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad.

Rains starting late on Friday night lashed large parts of the province and hilly areas received snowfall, plunging temperatures in upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Besides, landslides blocked the Karakoram Highway in Upper Kohistan district late on Friday night. However, the road was opened by using heavy machinery of a Chinese company working in the area.

Upper parts of Hazara also received heavy rain and snowfall on second consecutive day on Saturday as downpour continued intermittently the entire day in Mansehra, Torghar and Kohistan districts.

The snowfall, which continued in hilly parts of Hazara caused blockade of roads in Siren and Konsh valleys in Mansehra district and Kandia and Spat valleys in upper Kohistan.

Naran-Jalkhad road was also blocked to traffic from Kaghan onwards due to snowfall.

In Battagram district, the roads leading to tourist spots, including Chorr and Galai Maidan, were blocked due to snowfall, while rain continues to lash the district for past three days.

In Upper Dir district, a number of tourists thronged the picturesque valley of Kumrat to enjoy snowfall as Upper Dir received a fresh spell of snowfall.
