TAXILA: An armed clash between two groups of rickshaw drivers at Taxila chowk on Wednesday evening left one dead and another injured.

Quoting eyewitnesses and the injured, police said two rickshaw drivers had a dispute over passengers as each driver claimed that it was his turn to carry passengers. They had heated arguments which took ugly turn as one group of the drivers opened fire on the other.

As a result Farooq Khan died on the spot while another driver Yousaf Khan was injured. The attackers managed to flee.

Rescue 1122 ambulance shifted the dead and injured to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital.

When contacted SHO Sub Inspector Sohail Zaffar said murder and attempted murder cases had been registered.

Separately, a man attempted suicide in Mohallah Qaim Shah on Wednesday. Quoting the family, police said Irfan had divorced his wife a few weeks ago and on Wednesday he went to his in-law’s house for reconciliation which was rejected by them keeping in view the Islamic teachings.

On his return, he burnt himself, but his family members intervened by breaking the door of his room and shifted him to DHQ hospital from where he was shifted to burns centre of the Holy Family Hospital due to his critical condition.
