BAHAWALPUR: The Nowshehra Jadid police killed a gunman in an encounter near Dhoorekote near Uch Sharif, about 70km from here, late on Tuesday.

According to police, hardened criminal Attaullah, alias Mulazim Hussain, alias Mulazi Baloch, with an accomplice was riding a motorcycle in the area of Pull Jhangra, when he was challenged by Elite Force personnel of Nowshehra Jadid.

Both sides exchanged fires, and in crossfire, Baloch was killed while his accomplice fled and under the cover of darkness. The police recovered illegal arms and two motorcycles on him. The deceased gunman was wanted in the murder case of police constable Muhammad Ishaque Kausar of 2015 and other cases.

A complaint on behalf of Station House Officer Irshad Hussain Bokhari against Baloch and his accomplice was registered.
