QUETTA: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Petroleum and Energy Yar Mohammad Rind has asked the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to probe what he termed embezzlement of Rs800 billion by the previous Balochistan government in 2008.

During a meeting with journalists at the office of the deputy commissioner, Kachi, on Tuesday, he alleged that Rs800bn received by the then provincial government through the National Finance Commission award was embezzled, but NAB was not taking action.

“The accountability process is being carried out in three provinces, but NAB has turned its face away from mega corruption scams in Balochistan,” Mr Rind said.

He urged the NAB chairman to act against corrupt elements who had looted public money.

“Billions of rupees have been wasted in development of Kachi Canal, while health and education sectors were deliberately neglected by the previous governments,” he added.

Mr Rind, who is also provincial president of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, said that being a people’s representative he would continue raising issues of Balochistan at every forum.

“Kachi-Bhag water supply schemes will ease water scarcity in the district while Bhag road will link Kachi with several villages,” he said.

“I have been making efforts to ensure provision of quality health at district hospital, Dhadar. A lady doctor and paramedical staff will soon be appointed in the hospital.” He visited the hospital and inspected its various departments of the hospital.

Mr Rind pledged to get a girls’ college in Kachi established soon.
