PESHAWAR: A 165-member delegation of Sikh pilgrims from the United States, visiting Kartarpur to attend the 550th birthday celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak, visited Peshawar Museum on Friday.

An official of the Peshawar Museum, Mohammad Asif Raza, told Dawn on Monday that the Sikh pilgrims showed keen interest in a Sikh gallery set up at the museum. He said the delegation was briefed about the relics in the museum.

The delegation, led by Ravindar Singh, was warmly received by the officials of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa tourism and archaeology department on arrival in Peshawar.

The Sikh delegates said that many negative perceptions existed in the world about Pakistan, but after coming to the country those perceptions proved rumours.

Mohammad Asif Raza said that after visiting the museum the Sikh pilgrims visited a gurdawara in the Peshawar old city, where they participated in rituals.

The visit of Sikh pilgrims was part of a provincial government initiative to promote religious harmony and tourism in the province.
