MANSEHRA: Unidentified miscreants set ablaze the building of a government primary school in Zamiri area of Balakot on Saturday night.

The fire rapidly engulfed the entire building, reducing desks, chairs and other furniture to ashes.

Lodging an FIR with the local police, head teacher of the school Niaz Ahmad stated that seeing the fire the watchman cried for help on which the local people rushed to the spot and sprinkled water and sand on the fire.

“The furniture, stationery items, record and sports goods in all the classrooms and adjoining warehouse were gutted,” said Mr Ahmad. He said that the fire also affected the school building and rendered it unfit for use.

He said that the building would need proper repair and renovation. The Balakot police registered an FIR and have started investigations.
