KARACHI: The sprawling Karachi Racecourse can be developed into an excellent centre aimed at promoting tourism, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail said on Sunday.

“It’s an expensive sport and needs government’s support for revival of the yesteryears racing when foreigners used to come here for the purpose,” he told reporters in his opening statement after awarding the Sindh Governor Cup at the KRC.

The governor said he will apprise Prime Minister Imran Khan and IPC Minister Dr Fehmida Mirza about the potential the institution had and request for allocating funds.

Paying tributes to the role of Pir Pagara clan in promoting horseracing in the metropolis, he acknowledged that the incumbent Pir Pagara Syed Sibghatullah Shah has carried forward the legacy of his illustrious father the late Shah Mardan Shah.

The governor remained at the course for some 90 minutes and besides watching two races and distributing prizes, also held discussion with the KRC patron Sibghatullah Shah.
