RAWALPINDI: Police have prepared a list of the participants of Azadi march, including the vehicles they used and workers of Ansarul Islam and their financers and other particulars.

In this regard, directives were issued to all station house officers along with a pro forma to provide two-hourly details about the opposition parties’ convoys passing through their respective areas.

The details sought by the city police officer (CPO) comprised the number of participants of JUI-F, Ansarul Islam, civil society, other political parties, party flags and Kashmir flags, etc.

Say about 28,000 to 30,000 people in more than 1,200 vehicles passed through the limits of Rawalpindi police

The police also sought the names of individuals and their political affiliations who had arranged receptions for the participants or for the leaders of the opposition parties.

Details of political rallies joining the main rally passing through the limits of Rawalpindi district police were also sought. The police were worried over JUI-F’s plan to pass the main procession through Murree Road. However, the procession took Islamabad Expressway to reach the venue of the gathering in Islamabad.

The police estimated that 28,000 to 30,000 people in more than 1,200 vehicles, including trucks, cars, jeeps and motorcycles, passed through the limits of Rawalpindi police via Gujar Khan, Mandra and Rawat.

Details of small convoys that emerged from different parts of the district were also gathered and sent to the authorities concerned. The police had deployed 4,000 personnel and three companies of Rangers to meet any emergency situation.

A flag march was carried out by Elite Police Force, Dolphin Force, Traffic Police, Pukar 15 and special sections of Rangers in the garrison city on Friday.

The flag march started from the Rawalpindi Police Lines and passed through different roads of the city. The flag march was led by SP Potohar Syed Ali and SP Rawal Asif Masood.

CPO Mohammad Faisal Rana while addressing the officers said the police were determined to protect the lives and property of the citizens.

“Police are alert all the times and prepared to take any action under the law against any law violators,” he said.
