HYDERABAD: Syed Qal­be Hassan, an independent candidate supporting the Asma Jahangir group, won the election for the post of Supreme Court Bar Associa­tion (SCBA) Hyderabad pre­si­dent by securing 37 out of the total 53 votes in the ballot held here on Thursday.

His rival, Mohammad Sho­aib Shaheen of the Prof­e­s­sional group bagged 13 votes.

There were three polling booths within the single pol­ling station set up in the library of the High Court Bar Association.

The other candidates dec­l­a­r­ed elected are Khalil Ahmed Baloch (vice president Balochistan), Aurang­zeb Asad Khan (vice president Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Ghulam Murtaza Choudhry (vice president Punjab) and Inayatullah Moryo (vice pre­si­dent Sindh).

Ahmed Shahzad Farooq Rana and Choudhry Moham­mad Shoaib clinched the posts of secretary and additional secretary, respectively.
