ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will open a portion of the dualised Ataturk Avenue from Khayaban-i-Suhrawardi to Nadra Chowk on Monday.

Work on the remaining portion, which is also called Embassy Road, is underway and is likely to be completed soon.

According to a statement, all manholes are being covered while placement of curbstones has been completed.

Moreover, the issue between the CDA and Iesco has also been resolved and shifting of electrical installations would start from Monday.

Base and sub-base work on the portion from Nadra Chowk to Fazal-i-Haq Road would be completed and soon after service lines are shifted, a final layer of carpeting on the whole avenue would be carried out.

The CDA said steps were being taken to resolve traffic issues all over the city. In addition to completing road projects, modern technology is being applied on different major arteries to facilitate the public, said the statement.

The project started in 2017 but was stopped for almost a year because of an objection over cutting of trees. Finally, an environmental protection tribunal allowed the CDA to launch the project, but Iesco said it cannot remove the cables without getting paid for it.
