ISLAMABAD: The Central Committee of the Milli Yekjehti Council (MYC) decided on Thursday that its component parties would remain neutral over ‘Azadi March’ announced by the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F), but a final decision would be made by the heads of respective parties.

Sources in the MYC said that a meeting of the council, presided over by Jamaat-i-Islami’s (JI) secretary general Liaquat Baloch, discussed possibilities related to the march.

However, it was noted that none of the MYC component parties was interested in taking part in the march at the individual level.

The main components of the MYC are: Jamaat-i-Islami, led by Senator Sirajul Haq; Islami Tehreek, led by Allama Sajid Naqvi; Majlis-i-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM), led by Allama Raja Nasir Abbas; Markazi Jamiat Ale Hadith, led by Prof Sajid Mir; and Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan.

The meeting was arranged by the MYC’s Tehreek Riasat-i-Madina Action Committee, headed by Liaquat Baloch.

Talking to Dawn, one of the participants of the meeting said that the JUI-F had approached almost all components of the MYC, but since the JUI-F was not part of the council, participation of MYC parties in ‘Azadi March’ would not be appropriate.

“Leader of Islami Tehreek Allama Sajid Naqvi and JI chief Senator Sirajul Haq are personal friends of Maulana Fazlur Rehman, but due to some reasons these parties did not even participate in the multi-party conference called by the JUI-F,” the participant said.

The meeting was attended by secretary general of Islami Tehreek Allama Arif Hussain Wahidi, deputy secretary general of the MYC Syed Saqib Akbar Naqvi, deputy secretary general of Majlis-i-Wahdatul Muslimeen Nasir Sheerazi, central leader of the Muttahida Jamaat-i-Ahle Hadith Osama Bukhari and joint secretary of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan Tahir Tanoli.

Allama Arif Wahidi is also a member of the committee formed by the Council of Islamic Ideology to devise a framework for establishment of governance mechanism similar to the ‘State of Madina’, in the country.

The MYC meeting also expressed solidarity with the oppressed people of India-held Kashmir.

It was decided that the MYC would launch a vigorous campaign for the liberation of the oppressed people of occupied Kashmir.

It was also decided that a delegation of leaders of religious parties would present their views on Kashmir to the president and the army chief.
