RAWALPINDI: The Airport Security Force (ASF) offloaded a Chinese national and handed him over to Customs authorities at Islamabad International Airport (IIA) on Thursday for allegedly attempting to smuggle a large amount of foreign currency.

According to airport sources, the passengers’ security check for an Emirates flight to Dubai was in process when ASF staff spotted a large sum of foreign currency in a suitcase and asked to search the passenger.

The search uncovered $60,112, Yuan 3,426 and Rs11,860.

The passenger, identified as Zeng Huiping, was travelling to China via Dubai when he was intercepted by security officials for carrying more foreign currency than the permitted limited.

He was handed over to Customs for legal proceedings.
