PESHAWAR Aug 5: Two officials of the US Justice Department on Friday called on the NWFP police chief Muhammad Raffat Pasha here and discussed issues related to police training.

The delegation comprised Edward W. Routh, programme manager of the criminal division and his deputy Michel Duval. The two men engaged in discussions with Mr Pasha about courses conducted at the Police Training College in Hangu and the regional training wing in Kohat.

The US officials took keen interest in the training programme of the Frontier police and held out assurances that all necessary equipment and facilities would be provided to harness their capabilities and skills.

They also said that different training programmes would be arranged for the Frontier police jawans under the supervision of foreign experts to enable them to control mobs, handle crisis situations, improve their investigation skills and combat terrorism and saboteur activities.

Mr Pasha told US officials that special attention was being given to the training of police jawans. “For this purpose all available resources are being utilized to fully equip the jawans with the latest training and apply these techniques in the field,” he said.

Mr Routh and Mr Duval were told that the syllabus of both training institutions had been updated and made in consonance with the needs of modern times. Moreover, they were told that new courses had been introduced in the training to enable jawans to meet the impending challenges in a fitting manner.—PPI
