HOW dare you, roared Great Thunberg in a speech packed with emotion at the UN Climate Action Summit in New York last month.
Since I heard Thunberg’s speech on climate change, I have felt motivated to do more. The 16-year-old from Sweden started off by protesting alone in her city, and now youth from all over the world is behind her.
She said: “You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. And yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!”
Thunberg is correct. Climate change is going to be a burden on our generation and many generations after us.
It is time we stood up to our leaders and repeated Thunberg’s words: “We will not let you get away with this. Right here, right now is where we draw the line. The world is waking up. And change is coming, whether you like it or not.”
