Zafar, Mudassar, Gohar elected as top PNF officials

KARACHI: Capt (R) Zafar Iqbal Awan and Mudassar Razak Arain were unanimously elected as chairman and president of Pakistan Netball Federation (PNF) for a further four-year term of 2019-2022 while Syed Gohar Raza was elected as the new secretary general in the general council meeting here this week.

Chairman Election Commission Muhammad Saleem announced the new PNF office-bearers and said that all office bearers were elected unanimously and the elections were held according to the policy of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).

The elected office bearers are: Chairman, Capt (R) Zafar Iqbal Awan; President, Mudassar Razak Arain, Secretary General, Syed Gohar Raza, Senior Vice President Syed Touqeer Burni; Vice Presidents: Malik Sameen Khan, Lt.Col (rtd) Ghulam Murtaza Shah, Shazia Yousaf and Musharaf Khan; Associate Secretaries: Quratul Ain, Tanveer Ahmed and Muhammad Riaz; Treasurer, Sohail Ahmed.

The six members of Executive Committee ware: Nisar Ahmed (Gilgit Baltistan), Chaudhry Yasir Maqbool (AJK), Nisha Sultan (PWNA), Ijazul Haq (Sindh), Rehana Toqeer ( Balochistan) and Anwar Ahmed Ansari (NUA). Rafique Pirzada, Director PSB Coaching Centre, was the observer.

After the polls, Mudassar told that the general council that the sports activities calendar for the next 2020 has been approved after thorough discussions.

He said that PNF will send three teams for participation in international events including South Asian Under-16 Girls Championship at Nepal from October 18-22, Asian Men Netball Championship at Singapore in December 2019 and Asian Women Netball Championship at South Korea in June 2020.—Agencies


Mahoor wins bronze in Bulgaria event

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Mahoor Shahzad claimed a bronze medal in the Bulgarian International Championship which was staged from Oct 3 to 6.

The 22-year-old from Karachi, who is ranked 165 in the standings, had a walkover in round 32.

Mahoor beat Turkey’s Aslihan Ayna by 21-14, 21-8 in the round-of-16 match and went on to claim a 21-11, 21-20 win over Bulgaria’s Tanya Ivanova in the quarter-final.

Her campaign came to an end with a 17-21, 12-21 defeat to Getter Saar of Estonia in the semi-final.

Inga Sadaic and Mahoor Shahzad, who could not progress beyond the semi-final stage, were awarded bronze medals.

Meanwhile, Mahoor said she is satisfied with her show and would work harder in future.

“My journey in the Bulgarian International Championship 2019 concluded with a bronze medal for Pakistan. As the only Pakistani player participating in the tournament, I’m quite satisfied at making it to the top 3. I am gratified by the support, and working hard for the next events,” she Tweeted.—Agencies


Karachi Club National Tennis from 17th

KARACHI: The 2nd Karachi Club National Seniors & Juniors Tennis Championship will be played here from Oct 17-23, organisers Karachi Club and Sindh Tennis Association announced on Tuesday.

The events to be contested in the championship include Juniors under-18 singles & doubles, girls under-18 singles & doubles, boys and girls under-14 singles & doubles, Seniors 35-plus doubles, 45-plus doubles and 55-plus doubles. A Sindh ranking event of men’s doubles as well as two events for special athletes with the technical support from Para Sports Pakistan & Special Olympics Pakistan will also be held in the championship.

The last date of entry for the championship is oct 15. Entry forms are available at Karachi Club (tennis section) and at the leading clubs of Karachi. The forms can also be down-loaded from www.Sindh Tennis Association.com

All players must have PPIN ( Pakistan Players Identification Number ) to be eligible to play the national tournaments. Those who do not have valid PPIN , must bring two passport size photos. All out station junior players are entitled to daily allowances and travelling allowances as per the PTF rules.

Korangi beat District West 2-0 in hockey league

KARACHI: District Korangi carved out 2-0 victory over district West to maintain its unbeaten run in the IG Sindh Inter-district Hockey League at the Olympian Hanif Khan and Dr Junaid Ali Shah Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Captain of the winning team Noman Khan opened the account for his team in the 32nd minute while Waseem Aslam sealed the fate in 57th minute.

It is pettinent to mention that Korangi had chalkd up 4-1 victory over Malir in their opening fixture. Custodian of Korangi M. Asif was declared man of the match for his outstanding keeping. District Malir notched up first victory when they got the better of district East 2-1 the other day.

Man of the match Arsalan slammed the first goal in 23rd minute while Owais Khan doubles it 10-minute later. Abdullah reduced the deficit for the losers a minute before the final hooter.—Sports Reporter


Sindh TT team named for games

KARACHI: The Sindh Table Tennis Association (STTA) has announced an eight-member men’s and women’s teams for the 33rd National Games table tennis competition being held at Peshawar later this month.

The team was announced following four-day trials held at the Sindh Sports Board Complex.

Team:

Salman Saleem, Aahil Shah, Furqan Patel, Noman Zara (men’s), Hareem Anwer, Maria Tazeem, Hoor Fawad, Qurat Sakina (women’s).

Nayyer Ahmed Siddique, Seema Shamim (officials).
