PESHAWAR, Aug 4: All is set to stage the 17th national judo championship at the Qayyum Stadium during Sept 30-Oct 2, said, Shehzada Naeem Latif, president of the NWFP Judo Association at a news conference on Thursday. Apart from teams of the four provinces, contingents from Wapda, Army, Railways and Police would also compete in the event. Invitation had also been sent to the neighbouring Afghanistan team, which would play friendly matches against host team.

He said that competitions would be held in 10 different categories and Rs10,000 and Rs5,000 would be given as cash award to those securing first and second places in each of the categories.

For the best player of the tournament, cash prize of Rs3,000, while the players winning gold medals would be given Rs10,000 cash award as well, he added. Army being the defending champion, is likely to face tough resistance from Wapda. Results of the tournament would be made available on the internet and people would watch the players in action on big screens.
