KARACHI, Aug 4: The conjoined twins born about five days back in a Malir hospital are being evaluated for associated anomalies at the National Institute of Child Health

The twins have two separate complete heads and faces, hearts, lungs, while the chest and abdomen are fused. They have single pelvis and two hands, two legs and one incomplete arm.

The pair of Dicephalus conjoined twins was admitted to the NICH on Aug 2 in a critical condition, and is presently on oxygen.

According to doctors, the twins are suffering from severe respiratory tract infection, and there are rare chances of their survival.

Prof Iftikhar Ahmad Jan of the NICH told Dawn on Thursday that although the condition of the twins had stabilized relatively, but nothing could be said with certainty.

About any surgical applications, Dr Iftikhar said that the NICH was capable of operating upon the twins, but at the moment all efforts were being made to pull them out of danger.
