PESHAWAR, Aug 3: The Peshawar High Court on Wednesday allowed several candidates to contest local government polls scheduled to be held on August 18. A division bench comprised Justice Qaim Jan Khan and Justice Salim Khan set aside verdicts of district returning officers and allowed petitioners, including candidates for the posts of nazim and naib nazim of union council Amankot, district Nowshera, Iftikhar Ali and Aajun Khan, peasant-worker candidate Haji Gul Qamar, naib nazim for union council Lundkhwar, Mardan, Ismail Khan, and woman councillor for union council Khuderzai, district Nowshera, Nasira Bagum to contest the polls.

The court, however, dismissed the appeal of a candidate for general councillor seat from union council No.64 Muslimabad, district Mardan, Abid Hussain, whose nomination papers were not submitted in time in the office of the DRO.

Meanwhile, as many as 400 people of union council Daraband, Dera Ismail Khan have challenged the voter’s list through counsel Abdul Latif Afridi. They maintain that their names have not been included in the voter’s list.—APP
