QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani has said that his government is working in the fields of education, health, human resource and skill development to provide better facilities to people.

During a meeting with a delegation of Women Balochistan — a non-governmental organisation — on Thursday, he said women had a great role to play in the development of any society.

Mr Alyani said the provincial cabinet had approved a law for making social protection more effective. “The draft law will be tabled in the Balochistan Assembly soon,” he added.

He said that his government had signed a memorandum of understanding in connection with child protection.

“Major focus of my government is development of youths. Annual grant of poly-technique institutes and colleges, residential colleges and universities has been increased,” he said.

The grants were increased as the universities had been facing a financial crisis after the Higher Education Commission had curtailed their funds, he added.

The chief minister said steps would be taken for development of women in the province.

Shama Perveen Mangi, president of Women Balochistan, lauded efforts being made by the government for protection of women in the province.

While talking to a delegation of journalists led by Raza-ur-Rehman, the chief minister said the role of media was very important for keeping the masses and government aware about the rapidly changing situation.

He said the government would consider preparing a media policy and work on a media academy would be started shortly.

The land for a journalists’ colony would also be provided soon, he added.

The chief minister said a large numbers of people were affiliated with the newspaper industry and his government would solve their problems.
