ISLAMABAD, Aug 3: The Central Board of Revenue has decided to establish 67 tax facilitation centres (TFCs) across the country following the abolition of over 700 income tax circles. Tanvir Ahmed, member tax policy and reform, said that in the first stage, 15 TFCs would be established in 12 regional tax offices (RTOs) and three large taxpayers units (LTUs). This will be followed by 22 TFCs that will be established at buildings owned by the CBR, throughout the country.

He said that another 30 odd TFCs would be set at other stations once the acquisition of land for these TFCs was completed. The member was giving a briefing at a meeting headed by CBR chairman M. Abdullah Yousuf to review the progress on various reform projects.

The CBR chairman and participants of the meeting while reviewing the location of the TFCs stressed the need for a review based on geographical position viz-a-viz tax population.

Project directors of the proposed model customs collectorates and RTOs individually gave detailed presentations on their respective projects, followed by a detailed discussion on the progress made so far, timelines and bottlenecks.

An official announcement said the CBR chairman also called for a vigorous follow-up of the timelines to complete infrastructure, logistics and human resource needs of the proposed model customs collectorates and RTOs by the project directors.
