SARGODHA: The University of Sargodha (UoS) has done its homework to reimburse the students of its former sub-campuses with Rs57 million, handed over by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) after recovering Rs.94.1 million from the former administration through plea bargain in the private sub-campuses scam.

The amount fetched illegally from the students studying in the private sub-campuses by charging more than the approved fee shall be distributed among 6,000 students during a ceremony to be held in the first week of October, stated a press release issued here on Monday by the university.

Vice Chancellor Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad had constituted a committee, headed by Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Dr Sajid Bashir, to collect all details, prepare lists and ensure legal formalities. The committee comprised Student Affairs Director Ijaz Asghar Bhatti, Head of Zoology Department Dr Muhammad Arshad and one member each from examination department, treasurer’s office, administration office, registration and accounts branch.

The students concerned will be informed accordingly by uploading a list on the varsity website as well as through post.

The NAB had taken the former Sargodha university VC and former registrar along with the management of the Lahore and Mandi Bahauddin sub-campuses into custody in October 2018. However, the heads of the sub-campuses opted for plea bargain with the NAB in February and agreed to return Rs118 million. The former VC is still behind bars.

The suspects were accused of establishing illegal sub-campuses, receiving excess fee from students, making excess admissions, issuing fake documents to students, including transcripts, No-Objections Certificates and registration cards.

DOCTORS FINED: The Federal Bureau of Revenue’s (FBR) regional office issued notices to 22 doctors working at 10 private hospitals to deposit Rs880,000 as fine for not filing tax returns.

According to FBR sources, the doctors were issued notices to file tax returns, but they failed. Consequently, they have been fined Rs40,000 each and directed to submit their reply within 15 days.
