Plane on fire at Toronto airport

Published August 3, 2005

TORONTO, Aug 2: An Air France passenger jet skidded off the end of the runway and burst into flames after landing at Toronto’s Pearson airport on Tuesday, Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. There were up to 200 passengers on the jet, the report said. The Air France A340 jet overshot the end of the runaway and crashed into trees and bushes in a dip that separates the runaway from a busy highway. Flames and thick black smoke were coming from the jet and fire crews were at the scene but there were no immediate details on casualties.—AFP
