SUKKUR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) obtained a 10-day physical remand of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Syed Khursheed Shah from an accountability court here on Saturday.

Mr Shah, who is in NAB’s custody allegedly for owning assets beyond means, was produced before the court after being shifted from Islamabad to the city on Friday. He was brought to the court premises by a NAB team amid tight security.

A large number of PPP supporters who gathered at the court premises showered rose petals on Mr Shah and raised slogans in his support. NAB officials sought a 15-day physical remand of the PPP leader, but the court rejected its request. The court allowed Mr Shah to have home-made meal and meet his relatives.

The PPP leader has been accused of occupying an amenity plot and building a house on it. The NAB officials submitted some documents and maps in the court in this regard. They informed the court that NAB had sent several letters to the accused to attend the bureau’s office, but he did not pay any heed.

Mr Shah has been accused of accumulating wealth beyond his means and possessing (Benami) properties in the name of his close friends and relatives.

The counsel representing Mr Shah, however, rejected the allegations.

Advocate Qurban Malano, Malik Zubair and Ubedullah Malano are representing Mr Shah.
