TOBA TEK SINGH, Aug 2: An alleged proclaimed offender was killed in an encounter with Nawan Lahore police while a constable was seriously wounded on Tuesday morning.

A police official claimed that a police party was patrolling near Chak 358 JB, Gojra, some 40 kilometres from here, when they saw PO Riaz Warraich near a brick kiln along with an unidentified man.

He said the criminals started firing on police which was retaliated and the crossfire left Riaz dead and Constable Ghulam Dastgir seriously injured. The injured cop was admitted to the Gojra THQ Hospital.

ROBBERY: Dacoits looted cash worth Rs100,000 from the salesman of a cigarette agency on Tuesday afternoon.

Reports said Tanweer Ahmad was returning from Waryamwala by his motorcycle. Near Chak 393-JB Khanpur, two dacoits intercepted him at gunpoint and took away the cash.

ELECTED UNOPPOSED: One Chaudhry Qasim Manzoor was elected Nagra UC nazim unopposed on Tuesday after the rejection of appeal of his opponent Rana Sajjad Munir by the district returning officer.

Qasim had filed an objection against Sajjad for default of a bank loan worth Rs1.3 million on which the returning officer had rejected his nomination papers.

Sajjad filed an appeal against RO’s decision with the district returning officer who rejected his appeal.
