UK power supply

Published September 18, 2019

APROPOS the news item ‘Govt finalises plan to increase power generation capacity by three times’ (Sept 10).

Please break the monopoly and you will see a huge competition in gas and electricity suppliers with reduced tariffs to consumers in Pakistan. I live in Nottingham, UK, and go to comparison websites such as uSwitch, to compare the market or money supermarket for cheapest tariff.

There are 11 power/gas suppliers competing for business. I have a choice of going with British Gas, E.ON, EDF, Npower, SSE Plc, Shell energy, Scottish Power and other local suppliers. This competition has helped keep the price low in the UK and there is no question of power cuts or people dying of electrocution during rainy season.
