LODHRAN: Four labourers died due to ‘pesticide poisoning’ at Abdullahpur late on Friday.

Muhammad Yaseen, 20, Waris Ali, 25, Heera, 45, and Kory Khan, 45, fell unconscious during spray of Thimet 4G on rice crop near Abdullahpur. Three of them died on way to hospital and one died at the Bahawal Victoria Hospital on Saturday morning.

Ikramul Haq, agriculture officer pest warning Lodhran, told Dawn that they had directed the pesticide companies to strictly comply with guidelines and use gloves, masks and long boots.

“We are again arranging special training of farmers and pesticide dealers for safe handling and application of granular pesticides like carbofuran, cartap and thimet etc at the district and tehsil levels,” he said.
