Intikhab Alam

APROPOS the news item ‘PCB names panel to interview coaching staff’ (Aug 29).

Why is Intikhab Alam on the interview panel? Let us not forget that in 2006 on the fourth day of a test match between England and Pakistan at the Oval, the umpires ruled that our team had been involved in ball tampering.

Four years later, Zulqarnain Haider, our team’s wicketkeeper, arrived in England after disappearing for hours before a match against South Africa in Dubai.

The same year, the Pakistan cricket team’s spot-fixing scandal broke.

Why am I mentioning all of this? Because it is important to remember who was the main person looking after our team at the time — Intikhab Alam.

Yet he claims he didn’t know anything and till recently was still with the Pakistan Cricket Board enjoying a hefty salary. Somehow, he has managed to create a position on the interview panel.
