KARACHI: The Sindh government on Friday notified a 15-member Sindh HIV/AIDS Control, Treatment and Protection Commission with immediate effect in line with the recent Sindh High Court’s order, officials said.

According to a notification, the commission will have a five-member governing body comprising retired SHC justices Majida Rizvi and Gul Muneer Shah, retired Brigadier Dr Bashir Arain, former police officer Shabir Shaikh and former health director general Dr Hussain Buksh Memon.

A 10-member working body comprises of Dr Rafiq Khanani, president Infection Control Society; Dr Shobha, expert on infection prevention, Dow University of Health Sciences; Dr Naseem Salahuddin of Indus Hospital Karachi; Dr Fatima Mir of Aga Khan University Hospital Karachi; Asif Soomro, a lawyer with expertise in the field of HIV/AIDS; Dr Sharaf Ali Shah, representing a non-governmental organisation working on injecting drug users; Muhammad Raza, representing people living with HIV; Ms Rubab, member of risk community; Bindia Rana, member of risk community from transgenders and programme manager of Sindh HIV/AIDS Control Programme.

The commission will function as per the terms prescribed in the law passed by the Sindh Assembly, the notification added.
