OKARA, July 30: A doctor’s minor daughter fell into an open manhole in Medical Colony and was feared drowned on Friday evening as her body could not be recovered despite hectic efforts. Tanzeeha, daughter of Dr Iftikhar Alam, was playing in the street with other children when she fell into the open manhole of the main sewer line.

Her brother who was also playing nearby cried for help.

A hospital dispenser, Azam, and his friend, Azam Tamkeen, rushed to the spot. The dispenser entered the manhole but could not find the girl.

Later, DCO Mohammad Aslam Kamboh and DPO Dr. Jamil Ahmad came there but all efforts to recover the girl proved futile.

On Saturday morning, a crane was called to dig out the sewer line. Meanwhile, citizens have protested against the tehsil municipal administration for open manholes in the city.
