Jam Sohail becomes Jamots’ chieftain

KARACHI: The son of former provincial minister and leader of fishermen community late Haji Shafi Muhammad Jamot, Jam Sohail Jamot, on Sunday was made the new head of the Jamot community in a formal dastarbandi ceremony performed by spiritual leaders and elders of various tribes at a function held in the Baloch Mujahid Stadium.

Elders, chiefs of other clans, notables from across the province and friends tied the Dastar (turban) around the head of Jam Sohail Jamot to express solidarity with him.

The function was attended by prominent members of various communities, more than 100 feudal landlords, political leaders including Syed Shah Muhammad Shah of PML-N, Sindh Minister Ghulam Murtaza Baloch, MPA Raja Razzaq, Abdul Hakim Baloch, Qadir Patel and other PPP leaders, writers, poets and elders of the area.

Earlier different communities’ heads formalised his succession by winding a turban on the head of Jam Sohail.

His spiritual leader Pir Ali Akbar Shah was the first to perform his dastarbandi.

He was followed by Syed Sajjad Hussain Shah of Bulri Shah Karim, Hussain Shah, Syed Hussain Shah, one of the custodians of the shrine of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai and religious scholar Mufti Maulana Naeemi.

Chieftains of different communities in the province also took part in the ceremony.

Those who took part include Jokhio tribal chief Jam Abdul Karim, chief of Lashari tribe Haji Ali Muhammad Lashari and Rana Humair Singh of Rajput tribe from Rajasthan, Nationalist leader Riaz Chandio and Ali Nawaz Butt and others.

Expressing gratitude to all participants in the ceremony of his dastarbandi, Suhail Jamot pledged to follow in the footsteps of his father Haji Shafi Jamot by taking the entire community on board and make every effort to remove differences, if any, among them.
