TAXILA: Attock police on Friday claimed to have arrested members of a gang involved in the kidnapping of a man and demanding Rs5 million ransom and later killing him.
District Police Officer (DPO) Attock Syed Shahzad Nadeem Bukhari told newsmen that three accused identified as Yasir Khan, Mohammad Taj and Nusrat Khan, residents of Balniwal, had kidnapped Mohammad Anwar from the limits of Attock city police station.
They demanded Rs5 million from his family for his release and when they did not get the money, they killed the man and buried his body in a deserted place near Karang village.
The DPO said a team led by station house officer city police station, Aabid Shah, traced the suspects through mobile phone record and arrested them.
He said during interrogation, the suspects confessed to having committed the crime and on their identification, the victim’s body was recovered and handed over to his family after autopsy.
DPO Bukhari said the police have registered a case against the suspects and sent them behind bars.
Meanwhile, a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted in the limits of Taxila police station on Friday.
The victim’s husband told the police that his wife was alone at home with her mentally-challenged son when the elder brother of his brother-in-law allegedly assaulted her.
Taxila police have registered a case and started investigation.
