RAWALPINDI: A youth was shot dead by suspected burglars after he along with his brother chased them in the street at Khayaban-i-Sir Syed early on Friday.

Syed Hamid Ali Kazmi, father of the victim, stated in the FIR that he along with his four sons and a daughter lived in a triple-storey house at Khayaban-i-Sir Syed. He said all the family members were asleep when his sons spotted some persons breaking into the house.

He said after his sons got up and shouted at the intruders, the suspects ran away without taking any valuables.

When the two brothers chased them in the street, one of the fleeing suspects opened fire on Qasim, 23.

The injured was shifted to Holy Family Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Superintendent of Police (investigation) Mohammad Faisal told Dawn that shortly after the incident the police reached the scene and collected evidence to trace the culprits and ascertain the circumstances in which the youth was killed.

He said CCTV footage of the incident had been obtained and the accused would be identified soon.

A special police team, led by the SP investigation, has been formed to probe the incident and arrest the accused.

Police have been claiming that a foolproof security plan has been chalked out for Muharram which is starting in a few days. However, street crime continued in different parts of the city without any check.
