MALIR located at the eastern side of Karachi, is a neglected district. Many big industrial units like FFC, Suzuki Motors, Port Qasim Authority, Jinnah International Airport are situated in Malir.

Malir was famous because of its open atmosphere and lush green farms, but now these are no more part of the district owing to increased migration towards Karachi. Agricultural land and green belts of Malir have been converted into commercial areas, damaging the area’s ecosystem. Malir once was famous for its fruit and vegetable farms, but is now known for water scarcity. Its farmlands are being converted into residential areas. Such changes are increasing environmental degradation in Malir.

Moreover, Malir’s water level is rapidly depleting and the water is polluted.

The Sindh Environmental Protection Agency should take necessary steps to protect the green belts of Malir and create awareness among the people about saving the environment.
