ISLAMABAD: The Chief Election Commissioner, Mr Justice Abdus Sattar, today [Aug 19] called upon the officials and staff of the Election Commission to perform their tasks with “awareness, earnestness and vigilance” to ensure free and fair elections in the country.

Addressing the staff of the Commission this morning, Justice Sattar said that they should prepare themselves for the forthcoming elections and “work as a family and must play their effective role individually and collectively”.

He said the country and even the world are eagerly looking forward to the holding of elections in Pakistan.

The first task before the Commission, the Chief Election Commissioner said, is to prepare the electoral rolls and this work will start shortly. The officials and the staff of the Commission should make all efforts that rolls are prepared fairly. “This will be a significant step for holding free and fair elections,” Justice Sattar said. — Agency

[Meanwhile, as reported by another agency in Islamabad,] The Election Commission today [Aug 19] contradicted a news item circulated by a news agency that the high level conference called by the Chief Election Commissioner will discuss qualifications necessary for a person to become a voter.
