NEW DELHI: Pakistan and India today [June 23] agreed to run an express train between Lahore and Amritsar. This was decided by the Pakistan and Indian delegations in New Delhi this morning on the resumption of rail traffic between the two countries. The timings of the train are under discussion. Discussions were also held in regard to the interchange of goods traffic, creation of a wagon pool, passenger traffic and other related matters. After a general discussion on these matters the teams were split into groups.
[Meanwhile, according to news agencies from New Delhi,] The Indian Government today [June 23] announced the lifting of trade law from the 15th of next month to allow private importers and exporters to trade with Pakistan. The announcement, however, said the trade will be subject to procedures, orders and regulations as may be enforced from time to time by the Indian Government.Pakistan and India in January last, following trade agreement, decided that bilateral trade should be restricted to Government to Government basis or to Government agencies. The official announcement said that in the process of normalisation a stage has been reached when private trade can be inducted into export and import business.
