KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has called a report from a sessions judge on a petition against a district judge and others.

The petitioner, Moham­mad Afzal, contended that he was abducted within the remit of the Preedy police station allegedly on the behest of a former SP last year and got released after payment of ransom.

He maintained that the case was currently pending trial before a sessions court (West) and alleged that earlier the investigating officer of the case had placed the petitioner’s name in the column of absconders of the charge sheet on the directive of a district and sessions judge since the judge was a close relative of former SP Niaz Khoso, who along with others was nominated as accused in the case.

The petitioner impleaded the home secretary, SSP (South), district and sessions judge (South), SHO Preedy, IO and other as respondents and alleged that he and his family were being harassed.

A two-judge SHC bench headed by Justice K.K. Agha observed that a progress report was called from the sessions judge twice, but the report had not been received yet. The bench yet again directed the sessions judge to file comments till Sept 26.
