MINGORA: Two persons died of cholera at Gut area of Malam Jabba in Swat district, according to local residents.

They said that the disease had affected over 50 people in the village during past few days. The deceased were identified as Mohammad Zahir, 55, and a woman Taj Mahal, 38.

“The epidemic has infected people of the entire Gut village, which has been caused by water. Those in critical condition have been taken to Saidu teaching hospital for treatment,” said Abdullah, a local resident.

The villagers have urged the government to send medical teams to the area to treat the affected people.

When contacted, an official of the district health office, Dr Ahmad Ali, said that health teams had been sent to the area to diagnose the disease and provide the patients with proper treatment.
