KOHAT: After hearing about the indifferent attitude of elected representatives of the PK-81 constituency, Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF) has promised to resolve the issue of severe water shortage for over 16,000 households in Boraka, Bamma and Teen Talab areas.

The potable water problem in Boraka has become acute as water table in the area has dropped to over 200 feet from where only a few buckets could be fetched in 24 hours.

There is only one big well in the area where the desperate people have fixed four 20 feet stairs to go down and bring the water.

Talking to this correspondent, the chairman of the three villages, Kiran Khan, alleged that in the previous periods the nazims and councillors, including Saleh Din, Gul Khan and Munir, dug tubewells at their agricultural lands buy ignoring the problems of the people.

Shakir Bangash, a social worker of Boraka, said that the 10 to 12 buckets collected in 24 hours were distributed equally among 20 houses daily and the little water was used for drinking, bathing and washing.

He said that they had started work on a mosque in the area which had now been suspended due to water shortage. He said that there was no place where the people of Boraka could perform prayers, especially on Fridays, at one place together.

He said that the in-charge of Shahid Afridi Foundation belonging to Suleman Talaba, Malook Afridi, visited the area and after listening to complaints of the elders about the indifferent attitude of the MPA and MNA elected from the area, promised to resolve the problem of water scarcity from its charity fund.

Kiran Khan said that now proper surveys had been conducted for the first time since 1994 when the problem arose and three sites had been identified where water was expected to be found at a depth of 150 yards.
