PESHAWAR JULY 27: NWFP chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has said that his government has evolved a comprehensive plan to tackle flood related problems on a permanent basis.

He said relief measures, rescue operation and provision of basic needs of life to flood-hit people would continue, he said and added that the provincial government would mitigate sufferings these people and would not leave them alone.

He was addressing a ceremony to distribute cheques among flood victims during a visit to Nowshera on Wednesday. MNA Hamid ul Haqqani and MPAs Maulana Mujahid, Qurban Ali Khan, Khalil Abbass and Tariq Khattak also addressed the ceremony.

Opposition MPAs highly appreciated MMA government’s efforts for rehabilitation of flood affected people. They said they received equal funding for development of their respective constituencies. The speakers were of a unanimous opinion that Kalabagh Dam would pose life threat to the people of Nowshera, Peshawar, Charsadda and Swabi. It was an anti-people project that would be opposed at all levels, they added.

The chief minister said that MMA government was fully aware of devastation and losses caused by floods.

He said he had personally visited the affected areas and had given directions for relief and rehabilitation of the affected people.

“It was preparedness of the government machinery that no human life was lost. Government officials are reaching out to the affected people and taking prompt steps,” he added.

Mr Durrani said he considered himself a servant of the people and felt happier while serving people and making decisions for public welfare.

The chief minister said the provincial government restored philanthropists’ confidence in the government, which had disappeared in the past because of the loot and plunder by successive governments in dealing with their donations.—PPI
