ISLAMABAD: Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, senior judge of the Supreme Court, was on Tuesday sworn in as acting Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial administered the oath in a simple and dignified ceremony at the Supreme Court.

The judges of the Supreme Court, the Attorney General of Pakistan, senior lawyers and law officers attended the oath-taking ceremony. Officers and staff of the Supreme Court were also present on the occasion.

Justice Azmat Saeed will act as the chief justice during the period when Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khan Khosa and Justice Gulzar Ahmed, senior puisne judge, will remain abroad.

The chief justice and Justice Ahmed have gone to Moscow, Russia, to represent Pakistan in the 10th International Conference which commences on July 31 and will conclude on Aug 3.
