ISLAMABAD: The capital administration has imposed a ban on selling, purchasing and movement of sacrificial animals in sectors, sources told Dawn.

Although the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has designated an area in I-12 for the cattle market, certain sellers move to sectors with the objective to earning higher profits, the sources said.

The influx of sacrificial animals on roads, green belts and empty plots in various sectors of capital pose not only a health hazard but they are also a source of obstruction of traffic flow and accidents, they added.

Keeping in view of the risk sacrificial animals pose, the district magistrate has prohibited their sale, purchase, movement and presence in the areas other than the designated site. The ban has been imposed immediately and will remain in force for a month.

The officials said that separate teams had also been constituted to implement the ban in letter and spirit.

The teams would move in the city to keep check on the ban’s violation, they added.

Similarly, assistance was also sought from the police in this regard and those officials who were posted at the pickets had been asked to keep an eye on the movement of animals in bulk, they said, adding they will intercept any movement of animals in the city and inform the officer concerned for legal action.

The officers of the capital administration and police had also been asked by the district magistrate to take action against the violators immediately, they added.
