LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), July 26: Trailer drivers resumed transportation of goods to Afghanistan via Torkhum after successful negotiations with their contractors on Tuesday.

They had stopped service to press their demand for increase in transportation charges between Karachi and Kabul. Due to the strike supply of goods of various types to Afghanistan remained suspended for almost three weeks. Representatives of trailer drivers had taken plea that due to bad conditions of road infrastructure in Afghanistan, their per-trip expenses had increased many folds.

A 12-member delegation of contractors held a series of discussions with the representatives of trailer drivers in Landi Kotal. Political tehsildar Landi Kotal and Line Officer Khasadar force also attended the meeting. It was mutually decided that trailers’ per trip fare would be increased and if a trailer was unnecessarily stopped by the officials in Afghanistan, its drivers would be paid a daily allowance during the period of its detention.
