HYDERABAD, July 25: The president of the Hyderabad District Bar Association, Chaudhry Bashir Gujjar, has accused Muttahida Qaumi Movement activists of demolishing the boundary wall of the Bar’s office here on Monday. The incident took place following an exchange of hot words between HDBA president Chaudhry Bashir Gujjar who objected to the presence of the zonal in charge of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Mr Siraj Rajput, along with his friends in the Bar room, which is reserved for lawyers.

According to Mr Gujjar, he was warned by Siraj Rajput of dire consequences and was told that “they would teach him a lesson which would be an example for others.” He stated that Muttahida activists maintained that the city belonged to them and they would do whatever they would like to do.

He appealed to MQM chief Altaf Hussain to look into the matter to ensure that such incident did not occur again. Siraj Rajput, however, said that the Bar president was quite angry with him and even pushed the hand of his friend, who had offered him soft drink which fell on his shirt.

He said he had been told that he was unaware of rules of the Bar room but Mr Gujjar should have displayed decency while asking him to leave the Bar room. He admitted that he should not have sat in the Bar room if it was not permitted but the way he was treated was quite uncivilised and unbecoming of the Bar president.

Meanwhile, MQM MPAs Dr Arshad Shah and Aslam Pervez termed the incident an attempt to destroy peace of the city because the PPP had foreseen its defeat. They said that HDBA president Chaudhry Bashir Gujjar acted in an aggressive manner with Siraj Rajput.

PPP city president MPA Zahid Bhurgari, Mir Fateh Talpur, Fayyaz Shah, Saleem Shah and others in a joint statement have condemned the alleged attack on the Bar room which they said was violation of the sanctity of the Bar.

They said that MQM zonal in charge Siraj Rajput along with 200 workers had attacked the Bar office and ransacked it.
